The Economy League of Greater Philadelphia is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. Originally known as the Bureau of Municipal Research, PEL was a Progressive Era institution created by Philadelphia do-gooders to study issues of importance to the city "without clamor or partisan bias" and to work for change without
"bonfires and manifestoes." Among its founders were the leading citizens of Philadelphia, including Samuel Fels (of Fels Naptha) and Cyrus H.K. Curtis (of Curtis Publishing). Ever since, PEL has put an emphasis on Just-the-Facts-M'am research on a wide range of issues. PEL is celebrating its birthday by asking folks to offer their opinion on how to make Philadelphia a world-class city. You can find the short survey here.
