The state Gaming Control Board Wednesday (Jan. 27) gave the owners of Foxwoods Casino a March 3
deadline to come up with a plan to build a casino on its South Philadelphia site or face revocation of its license. Gaming regulators (who also are there to promote gambling) clearly are growing impatient with Foxwoods's promise that any day now it will have a plan and -- more importantly -- an investor to finance the casino. The Mashantucket Pequot indian tribe originally was supposed to finance and run the casino, but is sinking from sight due to financial difficulties. Word is that the new Foxwoods angel will be Steve Wynn, the Las Vegas casino impressario. The gaming board also fined Foxwoods $116,000 for delay of game.
