It's been 17 months in the making, but it appears the Philadelphia School District has reached agreement on a new contract with its teachers. The Inquirer
reports today (Jan.19) that members of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers have been alerted about the potential of a vote on the agreement. The old contract expired August 31, 2008. The district has made it clear it wants teachers to say goodbye to some of their cherished perogatives. It is looking for give-backs on issues such as seniority and the length of the school day and year. It also wants a merit-pay system in place. No details yet on any of these issues.
