It looks like property taxes will be going up in Philadelphia this year. Unhappy with Mayor Nutter's proposal to impose a $300-per-household trash fee, Councilman Frank DiCicco
proposed a 12.1 percent increase in property taxes on Wednesday (March 25). Both would raise the same amount of money -- about $105 million a year -- but DiCicco's bill would land on high-valued homes more than the Nutter flat tax. Council members were reluctant to sign on as co-sponsors of the bill, but it looks like the trash tax is dead and this is the bill that will move foward.
