Veon Convicted, Corbett Exhales

| Comments
A Harrisburg jury found former state Rep. Mike Veon guilty on 14 counts of theft, conspiracy and conflict of interest Monday (March 22).  Though the jury acquitted Veon on 45 related counts, the verdict is still good news for Attorney General Tom Corbett, the man who brought the charges.  For a while, it appeared the jury would deadlock over the case against Veon and three former aides, all of whom were charged with theft of state money for taking bonuses for working on Democratic political campaigns under Veon's direction. An acquittal of Veon would have caused serious political damage to Corbett, a Republican who is running for governor this year.
