Tom Infield has an interesting
piece in Monday's (April 26) Inquirer about shifting voter loyalty in Pennsylvania. To summarize, the state is becoming more and more Democratic, at least in terms of registration. The trend is most evident in Philadelphia and its suburbs, where the Republican party -- once a factor in the city, once dominant in the burbs -- has grown weaker. Thirty-six percent of all Democrats now live in the five-county area (42 percent if you add in the Lehigh Valley, which is part of the Philly media market). The new Democrats, according to the article, tend to be younger and moderate-to-liberal.
